GETTING TO KNOW COMPULSE INTEGRATED MARKETING: THE BLOG TEAM 3.0

Here at Compulse, every person not only plays an extremely important role on our team, but they also lead interesting and unique lives outside of the office. We’d like to spotlight some of what we do outside of the office so that our clients can better know the awesome people they are working with.

This week’s spotlight is on the newest members of our blog team – Brandon Keech, our social media expert, and Joe Tyburski, our page’s dedicated designer!

Brandon Keech

  1. What is your position here at Compulse and how long have you held it?
I’ve been a Social Media Marketing Coordinator at Compulse for two months now.
  2. A career in social media is extremely relevant in in this day and age, but might not have been ten years ago. Is this something you’ve always wanted to do? If so, why? If not, how’d you end up in this field?
I actually started out pursuing a career in software engineering, but soon realized it wasn’t right for me and life sort of ended up going in this direction. I’ve always been fascinated by different cultures, which landed me in Japan for three years in the hopes of experiencing something new. While I was there, I took a job managing social media for a company and things have snowballed into what I’m doing now.
  3. What’s the best part about working with social media on a daily basis?
I like to have my finger on the pulse and flow of information; social media is where that is now, and knowledge is power.
  4. What are some cool things people should know about you?
That’s a bit hard to answer given how what I’ve done is already normalized for me, but I recently moved back to the states after three years in Japan. I was also part of a robotics team when I was younger, the main programmer, and we won the FIRST Lego League World Festival in 2005.
  5. We know you’re a big fan of anime and manga. What about those mediums do you find so inspiring?
I enjoy the freedom of expression and visual story telling they allow as mediums, along with the artistry and creativity they tend to foster. There are stories, characters, themes, and styles of all kinds. There’s guaranteed to be something for everyone.
  6. What’s your favorite thing about Compulse?
The friendly environment here fostered by coworkers that genuinely like each other is far and away what I look forward to most about my time here.

Joe Tyburski

  1. What is your position here at Compulse and how long have you held it?
I am a WordPress / Front-End Designer and have been with Compulse for five months.
  2. What drew you to a career in web design? What about as a member of Compulse’s blog team?
Originating from a background in print design, I view web design as an opportunity to expand my creativity beyond traditional media by creating an interactive experience that is functional, easy to use, appealing and aligned with brand objectives. Much like web design, becoming a member of the blog team was another opportunity to stretch my skill set into new territories and learn more about other mediums.
  3. What’s your favorite aspect of being a web designer?
Seeing how far I can push the medium by creating an idea, feeling it’s impossible, and then finding a solution.
  4. When you’re not working, what might we find you doing?
I’m either playing guitar or video games, watching videos on YouTube, hiking or searching for new ways to better myself as a designer.
  5. You mentioned that you like to play video games. What game do you relate with most and why?
I relate with Minecraft because of the creative freedom this sandbox game has to offer. It allows me to choose my goals and how I want to achieve them. Plus, I have the opportunity to continue designing, even if its inside of a game and based more on architectural design.
  6. Do you have any advice for any aspiring designers out there?
Paul Arden said it best, “It’s not how good you are, it’s how good you want to be.” Stay hungry, aspire to challenging yourself and try new things on a daily basis. Embrace mistakes, they’re the best tutor you’ll ever get. Sharpen your interpersonal skills, they’re highly valued.

We hope you enjoyed learning about the newest members of our blog team – we certainly enjoy working with them! Think you might want Joe to design your new website or Brandon to execute your social media campaigns? Let’s talk about how Compulse can help your growing business keep growing.
