Scott McGrath has always had an interest in computers and technology. Early on, that interest drew him to a career in television broadcasting. He earned a degree in journalism and mass communication from Point Park University, and eventually found his way to a job with the engineering department at Sinclair-owned WPGH-TV. The invention of the internet then offered Scott an opportunity to explore other interests, including computer programming. In August 2014, he was hired as a web developer at Compulse, becoming a cornerstone of the development team.
The parallels between his old job and strikingly similar. In the “on-air” environment, when something goes wrong and you’re suddenly “off-air,” you have less than a minute to find the problem and fix it. The same goes for the work of a web developer – you have to make sure your client’s sites are going to work optimally and as intended 24/7. A web developer can never rest on their laurels; Scott reads as much as he can to improve his skill-set and keep up with the latest trends in programming.
Fun fact: When not at work, Scott lives for live music and longboarding. You may also find him at the local pub enjoying a good craft beer.
